Impress Touch-Screen Concept
Around this time last year we showed you a new touch-screen concept that replaced the glass screen with a foam surface. Today, that technology is being reintroduced by designer Silke Hilsing and the device is called Impress. The concept is that the foam surface provides a soft flexible platform for adult and kids to play with. Because foam isn’t transparent, the projector is mounted above the display, shooting downward. The surface is comprised of two layers of foam. In between the surface is an array of sensors that can not only pinpoint where you’re touching, but also how hard you are pressing. Even more impressive is that when someone wants to use the system, all they have to do is press the foam and it instantly turns on.
