The term pico projector is a very broad statement. The pico projector comes in many different forms and fashions. Recently, the writers from Pico Projector info got to talk to Karl Guttag, from Syndiant, to discuss the different types of pico projectors that are available today. Syndiant is closely associated with the pico projector market and helps design many of the display chips that are used. In the industry there are three major types of pico projectors. The first are stand-alone units. These projectors require an external source in order to display an image. They also usually only include the projector engine and sometimes an internal battery. The next version is the media-player version. This projector is very similar to the stand alone, but it also comes with an internal storage memory. This allows the projector to be used with out external connections. Projectors that come with an SD card slot can also fall under this category. The last version is embedded projectors and these versions are integrated into other products like a phone, laptop, camera, or any other display. The embedded projectors are expected to be the future of the pico projector industry and we should see more devices with these units inside. The stand-alone projectors however, are expected to fade out as the embedded models grow in popularity.
