NEC Develops Instant Translator

glassestranslator_a1

Do you do a lot of international travel but don’t know enough of the native language? Well rumor has it that NEC might be developing the solution for you. According to Inventor Spot NEC is currently designing a set of media glasses that can perform live translations. The system uses a microphone, a mini computer and a tiny projector. The person that you are listening to is recorded and instantly translated by the portable computer. The translation is then sent to a tiny projector that is mounted inside a set of glasses. The projector then displays the translation onto your retinas. The system is like having subtitles where ever you go and it allows people with different languages to hold a conversation with out being able to know each other’s language. There is no word yet when or how much these glasses will cost, but the word is that NED plans to release them in 2010.
