HYPOLED Project Announces Progress Towards OLED Projectors

The HYPOLED project is a European project working towards high-performance OLED based pico projectors. The project is now entering their 18th month and the developers have recently announced their progress. Their latest development is a VGA (640 x 480) resolution, full-color OLED microdisplay that measures only 0.18 micrometers thick. The display chip and micro-projection optics system is connected to a MediaBox and allows the display to work via WiFi connection. The developers have also announced that they have given their design to Fraunhofer IPMS in order to begin development of prototype pico projectors. There is no word yet when the OLED display chips will be integrated into pico projectors.
