College Students Invent ARPool and Deep Green Pool Robot
We have seen augmented reality systems before. These systems use projectors to place pictures overtop the existing display in order to either educate, entertain, or to help the current situation. The students from Queens University have developed the AG technology to develop their pool game. Their system, the ARPool, uses a variety of cameras and sensors to detect were the pool balls and stick is located on the table. It then can display where each ball will go when you hit the cue ball. To take this technology one step farther, The ARPool system is pared with a robotic arm and a playing system called Deep Green that will automatically rack the balls and even play a game with you. The developers compare Deep Green to the Deep Blue chess playing computer that could not be beat several years ago. Unlike previous cheating concepts we’ve seen, the developers not only base the shot on where the cue stick is, but also where it will hit the cue ball.
