Swansea’s National Waterfront Museum Receives Upgrade From Panasonic Projectors

The National Waterfront Museum at Swansea tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales, now and over the last 300 years. Recently, the museum received a complete upgrade to their AV systems and digital displays. The renovation started in March and virtually every system was replaced with a Panasonic PT-D5700 projector. 31 projectors in total were used to complete the museum’s upgrade. The PT-D5700 features a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and 6000 ANSI lumens. Mike Furness, Senior Technical Officer at the Museum said, “We have a very visual and interactive way of presenting our exhibits, aiming to really engage with our visitors. The majority of this is achieved using projectors used throughout the Museum’s opening hours so they need to be reliable and offer high performance across long periods of time.” One of the major displays is the main entrance, where two projectors display images of exhibits onto a plate glass wall. The museum also has a landscape section that uses three projectors to display Wales’ landscape on to a screen. Visitors can use the touch screen monitor to control the landscape and find out more information about the surrounding area. The most popular display in the museum uses six projectors to create a six meter long interactive table that is linked with touch table technology. This exhibit displays logos from Welsh organizations that visitors can click and learn more about them.
