Sony Releases M Series and D Series Projectors

Sony announced last month the soon to be released VPL-MX20 projector. Turns out, Sony is releasing not just this one projector but four more as well. Sony has recently announced that two new series will be available, the M series and D series. These two models are designed for business use and light traveling. All the models in these series feature the latest 3LCD display technology as well as a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Most of these models are now currently available on Sony’s website, but two projectors will not be released until June.
First is the previously talked about VPL-MX20. This projector features 2500 ANSI lumens as well as a 650:1 contrast ratio. Weighing less than 4 lbs, this projector stands less than two inches tall and can easily fit into almost any travel bag. A major concern is that the connection panel is severely limited to only an RGB and a composite connection. The MX20 is currently available for $3040.
The other projector that will be released from the M Series is the VPL-MX25. This model shares the same 2500 ANSI lumens and 650:1 contrast ratio as the MX20. The major difference between these two models is that the MX25 comes with a USB connection for “PC-Free” presentations. The MX25 also comes with a wireless LAN connection for cordless networking capabilities. This model will not be released until June and will retail for $3480.
The D Series comes with three different models. The first is the VPL-DX10. This model comes with 2500 ANSI lumens and a 700:1 contrast ratio. The connection panel is a little more diverse, including a RGB, s-video, composite and several audio connections. The D Series models also come with a 1 watt speaker system for audio during your presentations. This model is also currently available and retails for $1880.
The VPL-DX11 is next in the series, featuring a 700:1 contrast ratio and a much brighter 3000 ANSI lumens. The added brightness allows this projector to display clear images in rooms where there is an average amount of ambient light. The connection panel is the same as the DX10 and shares the same 4.8 lb design. The only concern about this model is that the 42 dB noise level might become a distraction while in use. The DX11 retails for $2030.
Last but certainly not least is the VPL-DX15. This model shares the same 3000 ANSI lumens and 700:1 contrast as the DX11, but this model comes with the same wireless capabilities as the MX25. In addition the DX15 also comes with the USB port for flash drives. This projector will not be available until June, just like the MX25, and will sell for $2460.
