Microsoft Announces Second Light System is Not Surface 2

It looks like there has been some confusion about Microsoft’s Second Light system for the Microsoft Surface. Recently, many reporters online have been stating that the Second Light system was actually the second generation of the Surface. The Second Light uses two projectors that can create two separate images. One is displayed normally of the Surface’s screen. The second display can only be seen when a second screen like a clear plastic disk or a piece of paper is positioned above the screen. In a recent blog release, Eric Havir, a Microsoft Surface digital communications manager, announced that, “The Microsoft Research project Second Light is not the next version of Microsoft Surface.” He goes on to state that the Second Light is only a way to showcase one of the many possibilities the Surface has to offer. In addition, Microsoft has no plans at this time to create a second version of the Surface and is currently focusing at marketing the original version to commercial customers in the USA, Canada, and select EMEA markets. Although the company has also hinted towards creating bigger screen for the Surface ranging as big as 60 inches, diagonally. Matt Champagne, Surface’s director of product management at Microsoft said, “We are looking at a 46-inch model to complement the 30-inch version we already have.”
