SMART Technologies Upgrade 600 Series with Touch Recognition Technology

SMART Technologies is responsible for the major technology take over of today’s classrooms. With their SMART board and a projector, the teacher is capable giving interactive lessons like never before. Recently SMART has announced that their latest SMART Board 600 series will be receiving a new upgrade to their technology. Originally the SMART boards allowed users to use a pen, their finger, or an eraser. If a user wanted to switch between any of these tools, the user had to first put down their current tool in order to use another. The new Touch Recognition technology allows the board to tell the difference between a pen, finger, or a user’s palm with out the need to switch. For example: a teacher can use the pen to write an example onto the board, then immediately use their finger to move that section of the lesson to the side in order to use the pen on the same space. The teacher can also use their palm as an eraser to correct any mistakes they may have made. The new Touch Recognition technology was designed with beginners in mind because it reduces the learning time teachers needed in order to learn the original technology. “SMART Board interactive whiteboards have always been the most widely installed interactive whiteboards in the world, largely because they are the easiest to use,” said Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “Touch Recognition builds on that legacy and makes the SMART Board interactive whiteboard even better.”
