Jakks Pacific Announces EyeClops Mini Projector

Jakks Pacific Inc. is one of the world’s leading interactive toy makers. Next week at the Toy Industry Association’s Annual Toy Fair in New York, the company will be announcing their latest addition to the popular EyeClops series, the EyeClops Mini Projector. Even though it looks like a toy, this pocket sized projector will be able to connect to DVD players, video games consoles, and digital cameras, and be able to display images up to 70 inches, diagonally. The projector will feature LED lighting, which is the popular choice for many other pocket projectors. One of the main aspects about this projector is its incredible price tag of just under $100, which keeps to the company’s goal for all their products. “With our 2009 EyeClops lineup, we are taking consumer electronics that are typically expensive and out of reach for most families and making them available in the toy aisle with fun, playable features and at an affordable price,” said John Ardell, senior vice president of interactive at Jakks. “We are very sensitive to how tough the economic environment is affecting families.”

Available now with a pair of stereo speakers, the projector, base, and batteries for under $100 from QVC… Carry case is extra (ca. $20). S&H under $10 in lower 48 USA, I think.
It can display upto a 70″ picture (on ac adaptor, also incl.), or upto 5 hours on 4 D batteries (per QVC promo). QVC’s demo looked ‘ok’ in darkened room (not pitch black, just dark), but contrast seemed weak. They did not mention resolution, but it looked reasonable (maybe even 800×600). Great for kid’s movies, but maybe not for business apps or impressing the boss.

Just put one of these on lay-away at local K-mart (Last one in-stock!) and I’m hoping it’s not a waste of money. Better be 720×480… That’s all I gotta say.
