Do It Yourself Purple Home Theater

Don Kellogg is one of those do it yourself people and recently his latest home theater was featured on Electronic House. The room took a little over a year to build, which included ripping out the existing media room. Don wanted something different but also looked similar to a classic theater. To achieve this, Don decided to use purple, white, and black as his color scheme. Don selected the colors because they were his old high school colors and purple is his wife’s favorite color. The biggest problem that Don had with this project was finding the time to work on it. His job takes him around the world almost every week, which leaves only holidays and weekend to work on the theater. One of the main features about the theater is how it was constructed. Don designed everything to last as he glued, and screwed all the wall panels, and even put two tons of sand under his stage to prevent it from vibrating during movies. In order for Don’s guests to truly enjoy movies, Don moved all the electronic devices to a closet sized room located in the back of the theater. This feature prevents viewers from being distracted by blinking lights and any noise that the electronics will produce. The projector that is being used for this theater is the JVC DLA-RS1, which features 700 ANSI lumens, a 15000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The theater can hold up to six guests in two rows of comfy leather chairs. The theater also features lighting that accents the purple.

Hi…we have our first home theater. We are trying to save money…we took twowhite sheets and stretched them over a frame. Should we leave them as is,(we can see the wood frame through them, or should we use something like gesso and cover it all. I am a retired special eduation teqacher, but I also taught art at one time, so I was wondering if that would work. Thank you so much for your helpful advice. It is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you…lorre

p.s sorry for the misspellings..I was in a hurry….and not paying attention, as I could not see the whole screen…oops

You can use anything as a screen, but you gain uniformity, and consistency in viewing angle with coated materials developed for projection. In the past I used a painted wall with pearl essence paint. You can get pretty good results if you take your time.
