Optoma Pico Projector Review

The Optoma Pico projector is one of the first pocket projectors to ever be released. This tiny projector features 9 ANSI lumens, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a 480 x 320 resolution. Recently, Trusted Reviews finally got their hands on this tiny device and has released their review. One of the first things the writer mentions is about the projectors size. The Pico weighs only 0.3 lbs and measures 2.0″ x 0.6″ x 4.1″ (W x H x D), making it one of the smallest projectors ever. One comment the writer mentioned about the size was the projector could fit into a normal jeans pocket and doesn’t need some, “cavernous anorak pouch.” Because the Pico projector was the first of its kind for the writer, he was a little taken back. After reviewing some of the most amazing high end projectors, to be stuck with a pocket projector that can’t even display VGA (640 x 480) resolution seems almost like a joke. The display was small compared to other projectors he reviewed. He also noticed that some dark scenes would become over-saturated and look unnatural. However he did mention that the picture overall looked quite sharp and surprisingly rich and credible. The final verdict about the Pico was, “The concept of the Pico is awesome, the design is brilliantly conceived and hugely desirable in an iPhone kind of way, and there are even some signs of genuine DLP image quality. That said, for me the inevitable performance compromises involved in squeezing a projector into your pocket are ultimately just too acute to make the Pico truly useful. And call me old fashioned, but however much I might feel compelled to own the next hot portable gadget, I still expect that gadget to be useful as well as cool. ”

This is really a cool gadget, with 9 lumens it may not be able to compete with existing projectors (which are big, heavy and some times noisy) but it is first of it’s kind and have defenitely opened up windows of opportunity and taken first step towards new developments in this direction http://www.knowtheworldaround.com
