Minority Repot Technology Comes One Step Closer with Intel Display at CES 09

One of the biggest technological thrills created in movies is the Minority Report 3D screen which allowed Tom Cruise to manipulate the digital environment around him just by using simple hand gestures. Ever since the movie, many companies have been trying to find ways to turn that sci-fi concept into reality. Well, if you were at CES this week you may have seen one of the closest attempts from Intel. Their display features two giant pieces of glass that has a projector shining behind it. Between the pains is a touchscreen sensor that, unfortunately, can only detect single touch commands. The result of this display is an interactive 3D image that doesn’t require special glasses to see. The image is reflected between the two sheets of glass, which gives it the 3D illusion. Unfortunately, this display is only in the development stages and there is no word on if this technology will be used in commercial products. The developers from Intel should team up with the inventors from Oblong, who presented their G-Speak last year. Click on the link below for a video of the Intel display.
