Dell M109S Projector Review

The Dell M109S is their smallest projector Dell has available. This model features 50 ANSI lumens, a SVGA (858 x 600) resolution, and an 800:1 contrast ratio. Recently, CNet released their review of the tiny projector. For its size, the M109S was no pushover in terms of convenience. The writers mentioned that the projector was incredibly easy to setup and use. They also highlighted that even though this projector is a little steep, retailing for under $500, the projector is incredibly low cost with its LED lighting system. The LED lamp that delivers 50 ANSI lumens is incredibly eco-friendly and can last for up to 10000 hours before needing replaced. The only problem with this lamp is that is generates a lot of heat, which makes the projector hot, and requires a noisy cooling fan. Another problem the writers noticed was that even though the projector is portable, it requires a lot of extra items like a power cord and a connection cord that can create an inconvenience and reduce the portability. The display that the projector could present was surprisingly bright, provided there was not a lot of ambient light. Even in a room with ambient light, the image was noticeable, but the colors were incredibly washed out. The writer did notice however that this problem could be fixed by shrinking the image down. The final thought made by the writer was, “The S$899 (US$601.62) Dell M109S is an interesting product. On the one hand, it’s extremely portable and offers superb value with a super-long lamp life. On the other hand, you’ll need a dark environment to project a good image and an AC socket which limits outdoor applications. Taking everything into consideration, it’s still a fine presentation tool for busy executives on-the-go, as long as the task is confined within office walls.”
