Two of the smallest projectors on the market today are the Optoma Pico projector and the 3M MPro110. Both models are about the size of a cell phone and weigh less than half a pound each. Recently the writers at Gear Log got their hands on both projectors and matched them together in a face off. The Optoma Pico projector features a 480 x 320 resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and about 9 ANSI lumens. The projector uses Texas Instruments’ DLP display technology and an LED light source that is estimated to run for 20000 hours. The Pico can create images up to 60 inches, diagonally from a distance of less than 9 feet. The internal battery is able to run between one to two hours, depending on what setting you have it at. The 3M MPro110 features a greater VGA (640 x 480) resolution but a smaller 80:1 contrast ratio. This model uses an LCoS display panel instead of the DLP panel that the Pico projector uses. One feature the MPro110 has that the Pico doesn’t is that it can connect to PCs and laptops via a VGA connection. One of the downsides to the MPro110 is that you need to connect external speakers if you want to listen to audio, whereas the Pico comes with a mini 0.5 watt speaker system. Another feature the MPro110 has over the Pico is that it only retails for about $349, while the Pico projector retails for $399. Both projectors are currently available through their respective retailers.
