Trafalgar Square Lions Come to Life

YouTube Preview Image

As part of the Visit London campaign to attract more tourists, animator John Paul has decided to take a historical landmark and bring it to life. Paul will use his skills to make one of the famous Trafalgar Square Lions talk to tourists and tell them all the historical events that he has seen. The square features several bronze lions that are part of the Nelson’s Column, which was constructed in 1867 in Trafalgar Square. The local legend is that a spell was cast on the lions and if Big Ben would ever chime 13 times consecutively, the lions would wake from their sleep and come to life. Paul couldn’t wait for that so is using his animation and a projector to bring one alive. The projector will superimpose a digital animated copy of the lion’s face onto the statue and have the animation give the illusion that the lion is really talking. The lion will get his voice from actor Shaun Escoffery, who plays Mufasa in Disney’s award winning musical The Lion King in the West End. Guests are encouraged to come and watch the lion talk on December 5th, between 4 and 9 PM.
