Maxon Visimax Projector Review

The Maxon Visimax projector is one of the many pocket projectors to be released lately. It features 15 ANSI lumens, a VGA (640 x 480) resolution, and a 200:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers at ZDNet got their hands on one to see if it is as good as the company claims. One of the first things the writers mentioned was all the stuff that came with the projector. The Visimax comes with a variety of extras, including a tiny tripod stand, a leather carry case, a second stand, a power brick, and associated cables, which all together creates a carrying package that is bigger than the projector itself. What is the point of having a pocket projector if the accessories prevent it from fitting in your pocket? Another feature that the writers didn’t like was the measly VGA resolution because it meant that any standard DVDs or video had to scaled down to the projectors resolution, which downgrades the original quality. The writers also didn’t like the low brightness of the Visimax because the room had to be virtually pitch black in order to display any type of bright image. Any form of ambient light would dull the brightness as well as the image quality. One of the few good things the writers liked about the Visimax was the LED lamp, mainly because of its 20000 hour lamp life and because it is Eco-friendly. One of the biggest problems was the $594 price tag that comes with projector. The writers commented, “If the Visimax projector was cheaper, we would have like it a lot more. However at AU$594, we think it’s considerably overpriced. For roughly AU$200 dollars more, you can get the much better Dell M109S projector, or even a full size portable projector. At this price you can also buy a whole netbook, or the best part of an iPhone or Nokia E71 – all which you will find to be infinitely more useful than this tiny, underpowered projector.”
