University of Tokyo Developes ARScope
Here is an interesting concept brought to you by the University of Tokyo. Augmented reality is the concept of linking virtual objects and reality. The University has recently announced a visual interface they call the ARScope. This device uses a hand mirror-like device with a built in camera on the other side and a headset that has a second camera and a built in projector. A user holds the hand held device that captures the image you hold it over. The image is then projected onto the other side of the hand device with the projector on the headset. The camera on the headset tracks where the hand held device is so that the projector can keep the image focused on it. The image displayed can show a magnified view of what the user is looking at or it can reveal altered states, similar to the second light technology of the Microsoft Surface. In addition to the mirror-like device, the university has developed a sphere device that allows multiple users to see the images highlighted.
