Microsoft SecondLight Gives Real-World Possibilities to Surface

You may have read already about the SurfaceWare and other new concepts for the Microsoft Surface. Recently Microsoft has also announced a new program called SecondLight, which allows users to slide a type of transparent screen on top of the regular Surface display. The Surface detects these figures as they touch and allows an alternate view of the image to be seen. The SecondLight technology uses a switchable diffuser to bring about the effect. When diffuse, the lens is “frosted” or showing the first image. By applying electricity to the switch, the lens turns clear, showing the second image. The IR camera used under the screen is programmed to detect where the transparent screens are and display the correct images. This nifty program opens has a wide variety of real-world applications from showing the insides of a car to allowing doctors to jump easily between X-rays.
