Christie Installs over 5000 Digital Theaters

Christie has announced the completion of the world’s largest digital cinema deployment plan. The plan started in 2005 and since then Christie has been transforming old film projector theaters into state-of-the-art digital projection theaters. The original plan stated that 5000 theaters were going to receive the Christie digital upgrade, but in reality Christie shattered that number by completing a record setting 5197 installations worldwide. “Surpassing the 5,000 milestone is a remarkable achievement, not only for Christie, but for the cinema industry itself. In 2005, there were only a handful of installations in the entire world and many people questioned the long-term viability of the move to digital,” remarks Jack Kline, president and COO of Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc. “As the market faces more competition, it’s helping to drive innovation and we’re seeing interesting growth opportunity around the world. The long term prospects are strong and we look forward to maintaining a steady pace of installations for years to come.” Some of the companies involved with the installation plan included Art Alliance Digital Cinema, Arts Alliance Media, and Access Integrated Technology Inc who had a contrast to have 4000 theaters converted.
