BenQ MP512 ST Projector Review

The BenQ MP512 ST is one of the newest projectors to come from BenQ. It features 2200 ANSI lumens, a 2500:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. BenQ claims that this projector was designed to work best with the Nintendo Wii. Recently the writers at CNET got the opportunity to review the MP512 ST. The first thing the writers mentioned was the really low resolution. SVGA resolution is designed mainly for office or portable projectors. Using this model for a home theater projector is a little underpowered. They also commented on the lack of features the MP512 has. The only beneficial features included a Picture Mode and a Reference Mode. Even with all these negatives, some positive points where found with the MP512. One major plus was the price of the projector. The market retail price for the MP512 ST is about $700. However, this model can be found online for as low as $573. Another good feature was the deep black levels. The writers mentioned the black levels were not as good as a high-end projector but it was excellent for an entry-level projector. The final thought about the MP512 ST was, “Priced less than a midsize flat-screen LCD TV, BenQ’s MP512 ST DLP projector is a solid, affordable option for people who want a big screen for casual use or gaming.”
