NTT DoCoMo Inc Displays Prototype Projector Phone at CEATEC 08

Ever since Chinavision announced the release of their phone projector, everyone has been releasing or announcing their developments for pocket projectors and phone projectors, and NTT DoCoMo Inc is no different. This week at the CEATEC trade show in Japan, NTT is displaying their prototype for a phone projector system. This prototype uses a DLP Pico display panel that was provided by Texas Instruments. The phone part is a variation of a current model that NTT has developed. The projector is able to display HVGA (480 x 320) resolution and uses red, green, and blue LED lights to produce 7.5 ANSI lumens. The projector uses about 3 watts of power to run, which is a lot for its size. The prototype uses a common phone battery and can only be run for 15 to 20 minutes before needing charged. The screen size is not that impressive. The projector can only create a 20 inch image from a distance of 2.6 feet. NTT said it plans to spend three years developing and improving such things as reducing the heat generated, reduce the power consumption, reducing the overall size of the projector, and ultimately reducing the cost before releasing it.
