Sony Announced VPL-VW80 Projector

Sony is announcing their latest home theater projector, the VPL-VW80. This model will be joining the proud BRAVIA line and is expected to shadow all of its predecessors. The VW80 will feature full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and 800 ANSI lumens. Its main feature is the 60000:1 contrast ratio, which will give the VW80 the highest contrast ratio in the BRAVIA series. The VW80 will also have the new BRAVIA Engine 2 image processor to deliver amazing detail and sharpness. The VW80 will also include dual HDMI inputs, a component, s-video, composite, and VGA connection. It will also have a serial port that will allow for easy control. The VW80 will also be the first projector to feature three Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD) display panels, which is Sony’s personal variant of LCD panels. Another feature that will come with the VW80 is an automatic lens cover that opens and closes automatically when the projector turns on and off. This feature, although minor, is very helpful because it will keep the lens clean while the projector is not in use. Unfortunately, Sony has not given the VPL-VW80 a price or a release date.
