Bayview Street Cinema in Camden Reopens for International Film Festival

The Bayview Street Cinema was one of the best cinemas in the Camden area, in New Jersey. Since its closing last year, a small group called the Camden Cinema Committee has been working to build another theater near the sit that the previous theater stood. They have also been given the option to renovate the old theater and keep the theater where it stands. The committee expected a lot of obstacles to get this task done, but instead has been given help and support from locals and other theaters from as far as Cape Cod. One of the problems the committee did realize is that most independent can’t survive on ticket sales alone. To fix this problem, the committee is looking into possibly forming a nonprofit, cultural arts organization to support the theater. The new cinema is expected to make their grand opening at the Camden International Film Festival, September 25-28. The Bayview Street Cinema was originally opened in 1975 and was run by a local family. The theater ran for 32 years before its closing in 2007. At the closing, the owners played “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” which was also the very first movie that the theater played. The previous owner of the cinema is looking forward to its revival and plans to be one of the first in line at opening day.
