Sim2 recently announced that they are pairing up with Entertainment Experience to create what they call the Better-Than-Blu-ray-Disc High-Def Entertainment systems. The systems will include Sim2’s Grand Cinema C3X 1080 projector and Entertainment Experience’s “Better Than Blu” digital entertainment center hardware. The entertainment centers will have a high performance PC that comes with the Entertainment Experience’s software and a user interface preloaded. The center will be able to play “Beyond HD” 1080p HD discs which is said to deliver deeper colors and sharper images. The system will be calibrated to the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) color standards, which is the standard for most major Hollywood studios. The system will be also be able to play current digital media including cable HDTV, Blu-ray discs, DVD, and Xbox gaming systems and media-PC systems. Entertainment Experience said that this system will have access to more than 4000 movie titles, plus many new movies as they are released. Owners of the system will be able to purchase the “Beyond HD” 1080p HD discs or be able to download them off the internet, although the size of the movies would make downloading time tremendously long. The only opposition about this new system is coming from the movie studios. Jim Sullivan, president/owner of Entertainment Experience, said, “The studios are very concerned. They haven’t reaped the benefit from Blu-ray yet, and they don’t want us taking tickets from dealers.”
