Computer Waste Becomes Artistic Statement

ws_a1.jpg

James Burgett, founder of the Alameda Computer Resource Center, helps recycle old computers into shinny new machines. He is also the artist responsible for the 9 ft tall computer skull that is on display at the Intel Developers Forum in San Francisco. The skull was constructed out of electronic waste and is supposed to show how much electronic trash we throw out. The skull has two monitors for eyes, which displays messages and information about the recycling and other topics. The teeth and eyes are made out of flat panels. It can play audio and will even recite text messages you send it in one of hundred possible artificial voices. The skull also comes with its own digital projector that turns on at night and shows classic movies that featured technology. Some of the movies include The Last Man on Earth, Flash Gordon, and Night of the Living Dead. The skull is also remote controlled and can move on its own power, playing the Jaws theme as it moves.
