Minnesota Planetarium Society Uses ExploraDome While They Wait for New Facility

The Minnesota Planetarium Society used to have a planetarium of there very own. They would mystify and entrance guests with their programs and state of the art planetarium projection system. In 2002 the Planetarium was torn down to make away for the new Minnesota Library. The Society had no choice but to take their shows on the road. Today they travel with a 25 foot diameter Exploradome, which inflates and can hold up to 30 people at a time. The ExploraDome uses a projector and customized fisheye lenses to project the night sky and other shows for schools, youth groups and other social functions. The Society is also trying to get permission, and funds, to build a new planetarium. The plans include a new exhibit hall, rooftop observation deck, and exposition hall. The new planetarium’s centerpiece would be the Sky Theater, a 60 foot diameter dome that will be able to hold up to 200 visitors at a time. Unfortunately, in order to build this grand facility, the society would have to raise over 20 million dollars.
