LG Concept Projector Displays Images on Back of Hand

Monday, June 30th, 2008

concept_a1.jpg

Recently, LG had a contest to see who can design the next LG Phone. The winner presented this pen-like design that could not only be used as a phone but could also project images onto the back of your hand. The device would come with a wrist strap to attach the projector to. It would then be able to project photos and other information onto the back of your hand. The device looks like one of Spiderman’s web-shooters when it is attached to the wrist. The device can also disconnect from the wrist and be stored in your pocket. There is word yet as to if this design will become a reality.

Marantz VP-11S1 Projector Review

Monday, June 30th, 2008

vp-11s1_a1.jpg

The Marantz VP-11S1 is one of the best projectors Marantz has to offer. With full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and DLP technology, this model is one of the best home theater projectors out on the market. The reviewers at Trusted Reviews had the opportunity to test the VP-11S1 and they were very impressed. Everything was more than they expected with this model including the projector’s ability to scale standard definition images into high definition. Their only complaints were about the lack of vivid color and the white and that the black levels where dull and needed to be deeper. The reviewer thought that there was room for improvement and hoped that Marantz will see that. Their final verdict on the VP-11S1 was, “On paper I wasn’t sure the 11S1 had quite enough in its locker to justify costing a grand more than Marantz’s already stunning VP-15S1. But in the end I suspect that the VP-11S1’s target market, spending a grand to pretty much remove DLP’s rainbow effect from the equation probably seems like money very well spent.”

Projectiondesign Displays New Projectors at InfoComm

You may have heard about the Projectiondesign F10 AS3D projector being displayed by Texas Instruments at InfoComm last week. This model is one of the first projectors to be able to display 3D images with only one display chip, whereas most models require two. It turns out that Projectiondesign had a few other projectors they were displaying that week as well. The F10 wuxga and F30 wuxga both provide the stunning WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The F10 also features 3100 ANSI lumens and is very light weight, less than 8 lbs. The F30 model features a brighter 4300 ANSI lumens and comes equipped with dual HDMI inputs, DVI-D, BNC connections, and several basic analog connections. Projectiondesign also brought with them the new F80 1080 and F80 wuxga models. The specs for these two models are being kept on a need to know basis. However both F80 models feature 3DLP display technology, 8000 ANSI lumens and a 10000:1 contrast ratio.

InFocus X10 DLP Projector Review

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

x10_a1.jpg

The InFocus X10 projector is definitely a great combination of brightness and resolution. InFocus out did themselves when they created this little masterpiece. The X10 projector features a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and 1200 ANSI lumens. It also comes with a 2500:1 contrast ratio and is able to display images up to 200 inches diagonally. The reviewer at Trusted Reviews thought that this projector was worth much more than the £765.10 (about $1500) it retails for. The biggest problem they found with the X10 is the susceptibility to the DLP’s rainbow effect. The rainbow effect is when stripes of pure red, green, and blue that flit about for a split second in your peripheral vision, or over very bright parts of the image. This effect is caused by the DLP’s color wheel mechanism. The reviewer continued to say, “If I had a pound for every time I’d used the phrase ‘you only get what you pay for’ in the course of my reviews for this website, I’d be a wealthy man by now. But thankfully very occasionally you stumble across a perspective-shifting product that’s the exception to the rule. And the X10 is just such a product - with knobs on. In fact, quite where the rest of the home projection industry goes from here is anyone’s guess.”

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

pro8100_a1.jpg

The writers at About.com got their chance to review the ViewSonic Pro8100. This model is one of ViewSonic’s newest models and features HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and 1000 ANSI lumens. The Pro8100 also has 3LCD display technology and can project images up to 300 inches diagonally. The writers mentioned a wide variety of points they liked about this model including the 13000:1 contrast ratio. They also mentioned the quiet 23 dB noise level. Their went on to say, “At an MSRP of $4,995.00, the ViewSonic Precision Pro8100 1080p LCD Video Projector bucks the trend towards sub-$3,000 1080p video projectors, but is worth the extra cash. Its 3LCD chips, native 1080p resolution, provide a very natural looking image, without susceptibility to the LCD screen door effect. Also, the Pro8100 comes equipped with two HDMI ver 1.3a inputs, and provides upscalling for standard DVDs via a built-in Silicon Optix Reon-VX HQV video processor. However, the Precision Pro8100 could use a better lumens output and easier onscreen menu navigation.”

Planar PD8150 Projector Review

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

pd8130_a1.jpg

The Planar PD8150 was one of Planar’s top selling projectors. Recently the reviewers at Home Theater got their hands on the PD8150 to see how good it is. The PD8150 features 1000 ANSI lumens, a 15000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. It also uses DLP display technology and comes with two HDMI inputs. The reviewers really enjoyed the excellent performance straight out of the box. They also thought the PD8150 has class-leading contrast and light output. They went on to say, “The PD8150 is one of the best front projectors I’ve had the chance to use in my theater. It has the best contrast of any DLP I’ve used to date and has image accuracy that you rarely see in the front-projector market. This is also one of the only DLP projectors that let you have both high light output and dark blacks for high contrast. This is a mix we rarely ever see from this segment of the market. Planar has done an amazing job with its first dip into the 1080p market, and once Planar resolves the clipping issue, this is a projector I would be happy to use as a reference display.”
