Dorrance Planetarium Opens with Projection Technology

This Saturday, the Arizona Science Center will celebrate its grand re-opening of the Dorrance Planetarium, which had been originally opened in 1997. After six-months, this projector has paid out around $1.6 million dollars in renovation. According to Mike George, Director of the Science Center Theaters, “We’ve replaced everything except the frame that held the original screen.” The projection technology, in addition to a high-resolution screen will allow for detailed 3-D graphics that features immersive view of planets, galaxies, and black holes. In addition to the entertainment value, this projector will allow for analysis of other scientific data.
