Image Resolution of 4K Projection Technology

Sony

Recently, at the Los Angeles’ Landmark Theater, a screening of “Reach for Me” was projected in 4K Monday at Los Angeles’ Landmark Theater. Originally, the film used the Dalsa Origin II camera, and then went through post processing at Post Logic, then screened with a Sony SXRD projector. The issue currently, is with the resolution of 4K technology when compared to that of 2K, according to the industry experts, the difference is substantial, but still “others question whether there is a noticeable difference on today’s display systems.” According to Chris Cookson, president of Sony Pictures Technologies, “The 2K master has less information than the original film did.” Apparently, a movie that is posted in 2K uses 9 to 10 terabytes of storage, with a final project around 2.5 terabytes.
