Shiphandling Simulator Uses Projection Technology
![]()
The viception GmbH & Co KG, at the University of Oldenburg/Germany previously used nine analog projectors with a runtime of 2000 hours per year, they were recently exchanged for NEC NP4000 projectors that utilize openWARP technology with geometry-correction for a flexible solution to real-time warping. These projectors were chosen due to their abilty to provide brightness and contrast necessary for night-simulations. Mounted on top of a simulator cabin, these projectors were calibrated for 3D geometry correction. For customization, viception implemented a hard-edge blending which does the masking for each projected image. This simulator will enable training for captains and officers which will enhance skills for error prevention.
