To The Batcave Theater

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

batcave_a1.jpg

Custom made Home Theaters are all the rage for those who can afford them. One person in New Hampshire designed hers to look like a bat cave. This room features a 110″ screen, 8 motorized leather seats and a THX Speaker sound system. This home theater system is able to give a stunning (2500 x 2000) resolution. The walls and ceiling have been sprayed with foam to look like natural rock. The speakers have been hidden by disguising them to look like stalactites and stalagmites. The home owners also got some rubber bats and hung them from the ceiling to give this cave a dark eerie feeling.

Epson MovieMate 72 Projector Review

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

moviemate_a2.jpg

It looks like Gizmodo got a nice present, from Epson,  for the holidays. They got to review the Epson Moviemate 72. This model is the big brother version of the Moviemate 50. The 72 features HD (1280 x 720) resolution as well as a built-in DVD player and surround sound speakers. It also has a swivel hip which makes positioning the projector a lot easier. The reviewers at Gizmodo were very impressed by the quality of the video as well as the set up and moderate price. Their main concerns were that they had trouble playing Blue-ray disks when they connected a Playstation 3 to the 72. The other concern was its size. Their thought was, “You can’t stick the 72 in a tote bag and that’s a shame since all-in-one projectors are nothing if not social devices for gaming and movie watching.”

Panasonic PT-AE2000U Review

Friday, December 21st, 2007

ptae2000_a1.jpg

Cnet.com is back with another projector review. This time it’s the Panasonic PT-AE2000U. This projector is a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution model that comes with 1500 ANSI lumens and a 16000:1 contrast ratio. The reviewers thought that the PT-AE2000U was an excellent value for the $3000 price. They didn’t like the fact that it wasn’t bright enough to show any really big images. Their final thoughts were, “The Panasonic PT-AE2000U 1080p projector is a credible performer, especially when you consider its relatively low price.”

The IBM Everywhere Intereactive Display goes Shopping

Friday, December 21st, 2007

eid_a1.jpg

This has to be one of the coolest ways I’ve seen projectors used. The IBM Everywhere Interactive Display (EID) uses a projector, a camera and a motorized mirror to create a touch screen that can be moved anywhere in the room. The system can be set up to do anything from making pictures to presentation tasks in the office. One of the places they are showing this technology off is at the Bay’s Victorian-themed Christmas display window in Toronto Canada. Shoppers can use the window as a touch screen and have their picture taken and projected onto the faces of the manikins on display. From there they can either print a picture of the display or they can email it to a friend.

Fabricated Projectors

tp-a1.jpg

Gizmodo recently found a group of people who has been making his own projectors. These people salvage parts from a variety of electronics. They use the parts to make some of the most bizarre looking projectors you could find. Most of these projectors feature LCD panels from DVD or media players. They also have either a halogen light bulb or LED lights for a lamp. One person even made a projector that can show 3D images and even 3D videos using two lenses to show slightly different views simultaneously. Although you still need to wear polarized glasses in order to see the 3D effect.

vplvw200_a1.jpg

It seems like the Sony VPL-VW200 is getting good reviews everywhere it goes. Yesterday I wrote about a review written by Cnet.com. Today, UltimateAVmag.com released what they thought about the VPL-VW200 and it is good news for Sony. The reviews overall liked this projector they thought the detail and color was some of the VW200’s best features. The main problem they had was how expensive the projector was. They thought that this model, “offers superb performance, together with an exceptional set of features.”

screens_a11.jpg

Last week I wrote an article talking about the new screens that Vutec will be bringing to the CES convention in January. Recently they announced that they are going to show off more products at their booth including a variety of plasma and LCD displays. They will also have a new sound system that can be mounted that can be mounted either on a projector screen or an HDTV. The SoundScreen can either be mounted in the wall or free standing depending on the buyer’s preference. There will also be the Lectric 2 which is a motorized projector screen that can be mounted flush to the ceiling. The Lectric 2 comes with everything you need to adjust your screen so that you don’t see all the mechanics involved. All of these products will be available to be seen at the Vutec booth #20662.

JVC now has something to brag about for an entire year. Recently UltimateAVmag.com named the DLA-HD1 “Projector of the Year.” The HD1 was given this award for being one of the only projectors to use the new D-ILA technology. This technology gives the projector sharp, deep images with out the use of a dynamic iris. The DLA-HD1 features 600 ANSI lumens, 2500:1 contrast ratio and an HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. It is also inexpensive compared to other full HD projectors selling for about $6500.
